automeme irssi
sindacious:
For fun I made an Irssi script that makes use of the automeme.net API. Personally I’ve been using rupa’s automeme bash script, though I made an Irssi alternative for a friend that uses Irssi+cgywin.
Example:
[04:06:18] <~newton> I MOONWALK, THEREFORE I SUCK.
[04:06:19] <~newton> IS IT CAN BE ESKIMOS TIEM NAO PLEES?
[04:06:20] <~newton> BECOME AN HACKERS ON...

Another API update
The new API now supports cross-site HTTP requests, meaning anyone can fetch memes using Javascript.
Some “diving in” sample code has been added to the documentation. Here it is in Safari’s console:

The slightly new and slightly improved Auto-Meme API!
In addition to the old URLs (which still work just fine), you can now fetch memes with one of these:
http://api.automeme.net/text
http://api.automeme.net/html
http://api.automeme.net/text.json
http://api.automeme.net/html.json
The documentation has also been rewritten, hopefully for the better.

New page on the site, with links to official stuff and awesome third-party stuff!
API update
Now you can load up to 80 memes at a time. (Previously, the limit was 20.)
That is all!
Dr. Google, or how I learned to stop getting laid and blog about Apple.
Everyone who upmodded this loses the internet.

Some updates
The ‘API’ page has been rewritten, for the sake of clarity. It’s simple really: fetch URL; receive list. Some short code examples have been added too.
You can now grab random memes in JSON format, if you like. Thanks to jamiew for the idea.
Follow Auto-Meme on Twitter! I announced this a few days ago, but it turned out it wasn’t updating. At all. This appears to be fixed...

Filthy secrets revealed! The innards of Auto-Meme are now available for your perusal on GitHub.
For the curious…
Here are some interesting snippets from the code behind Auto-Meme. (It’s all Python.)
# random element from list/tuple/string
randel = lambda x: x[randint(0, len(x)-1)]
patterns = [
( 'im in ur {1}, {2} ur {3}', ('noun','noun1'), 'verb4', 'noun1' ),
( 'how do i {1} {2}?', 'verb2', ('noun', '~web', 'name') ),
( '{1} {2} {3}', 'name', ('~kills', 'verb1'), ('name', '~Dumbledore')...

Click click click click
After several hours of bashing Javascript on the head and begging it to just do something, Auto-Meme is now slightly more responsive! It downloads a handful of memes at a time, so you don’t have to wait for so long every single time you click.
Bonus update: ROUNDED CORNERS. It has them. I’m spoiling you lot now.
Auto-Meme Statistics (3 Oct 2008)
62 meme patterns (‘All your X are belong to Y’)
67 names (‘Jesus’, ‘Milhouse’, ‘The RIAA’)
148 nouns (where ‘Pokemon’ and ‘Pokeman(s)’ count as one noun, etc.)
26 transitive verbs (‘steal X’, ‘photoshop X’, ‘blog about X’)
15 intransitive verbs (‘drink’, ‘get...
